A brief history

Open Heavens Christian Centre is a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) worldwide. RCCG was born in 1952, destined by the Lord Himself to be a Church that would take the world for Him.

A New York Times article describes the RCCG as “one of [Africa’s] most vigorously expansionary religious movements, a homegrown Pentecostal denomination that is crusading to become a global faith”. The church has a bold vision of winning souls, taking as many to heaven and having at least one member of RCCG in every family across the world.

The church was founded by the late Reverend Josiah Akindayomi in Lagos, Nigeria when the Lord established a covenant with the reverend that He would meet all the needs of the church if members would serve Him faithfully and be obedient to His word.

It is upon this covenant that The Redeemed Christian Church of God was born and built. It is founded on the tripod of prayer, holiness and evangelism. The mission of RCCG is to propagate the message of the Christian Scriptures around the world and to proclaim the salvation found in Christ. As a church, it seeks to convert lost souls and reconcile them with their Creator.

Since its inception, RCCG has experienced an explosive growth in more than 192 countries around the world, and the church is still rapidly expanding, utilizing evangelism as a core tool along with church planting. In the United Kingdom, the church started in 1988, first as a House fellowship and it has now grown to over 700 parishes (branches) in the United Kingdom UK alone. The RCCG worldwide is headed by Pastor Enoch A. Adeboye who is the General Overseer.

OUR BELIEFS

God The Father Creator of Heaven and Earth, who made man in His own image and likeness.
The Holy Trinity The three persons of the Godhead; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit Three in One.
The Virgin Birth Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
The Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ Jesus was crucified and died for the sins of mankind on the cross at Calvary was buried and rose from the dead on the third day. He ascended into Heaven and is forever seated at the right hand of God the Father.
The Holy Spirit The Comforter and Teacher of all things who dwell within us, uniting us to Jesus Christ.
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit This is freely available to all who believe in Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit and is manifested by the gift of speaking in unknown tongues.
Salvation A gift from God through grace and faith in Jesus Christ; that all who believe in Him may be saved by turning from sin to repentance, trusting in His death and resurrection and are born again by the Holy Spirit.
The Blood of Jesus Christ It was shed for us on the cross at Calvary cleanses us from all sin and grants us access into the presence of God.
The Second coming of Jesus Christ Jesus will come again to Earth in glory and the dead in Christ will rise and those who are alive in Christ will be translated into the presence of God for eternity.
The Holy Bible The infallible and authoritative word of God given to direct all men and women to salvation.
